5.2a Recognize and name commonly used fractions (1/2’s, ¼’s, 1/5’s, 1/8’s, and 1/10’s) and their equivalent decimal form.
5.2b Order a set of fractions and decimals from least to greatest Fractions will include like and unlike denominators of 12 or less, and mixed numbers.
5.7 Add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers of like and unlike denominators of 12 or less, with and without regrouping, and express answers in simplest form
5.11 Choose an appropriate measuring device and unit of measure to solve problems involving:
a. length  - (1/2, ¼, 1/8, inches, feet, yards, miles, millimeters, centimeters, meters, kilometers)

5.3   The student will investigate and understand basic characteristics of visible light and how it behaves. Key concepts include

  • the visible spectrum and light waves;
  • refraction of light through water and prisms;
  • reflection of light from reflective surfaces (mirrors);
  • opaque, transparent, and translucent; and
  • historical contributions in understanding light.

Life Processes

4.4   The student will investigate and understand basic plant anatomy and life processes. Key concepts include

  1. the structures of typical plants (leaves, stems, roots, and flowers);
  2. processes and structures involved with reproduction (pollination, stamen, pistil, sepal, embryo, spore, and seed);
  3. photosynthesis (sunlight, chlorophyll, water, carbon dioxide, oxygen, and sugar); and
  4. dormancy.

4.5   The student will investigate and understand how plants and animals in an ecosystem interact with one another and the nonliving environment. Key concepts include
